We provide a comprehensive tax compliance service to ensure your tax return is completed correctly and submitted on time every year. Our sophisticated computer systems ensure this is done as efficiently as possible.
Specifically we aim to: -

  • Advise you as to the amounts of tax and NIC to be paid and dates by which you should make the payments. We initiate repayment claims when tax and NIC appears to have been overpaid.
  • Deal with the Inland Revenue regarding any amendments required to your return.
  • Advise as to possible claims and elections arising from the return and make any such elections.
  • Advise on tax planning issues to assist, if possible, in reducing your tax liability.

We can help you with all of your corporation tax compliance issues; establishing the company’s tax liability, ensuring prompt payment and preparing and submitting the annual corporation tax return.

We also deal with compliance relating to the annual P11D benefits in kind return. We prepare and submit these to the Inland Revenue and advise you of the liability and due dates. It is useful to know whether a benefit really does remain a perk and we can offer details on alternative tax efficient forms of remuneration.

We have many years of experience in this field. This gives us a unique insight into the way that the Inland Revenue conducts its compliance activities and also the way these activities are evolving.

No business welcomes the initially innocent letter advising that the Inland Revenue wish to “enquire” into their Return as experience shows this can quickly turn into a nightmare.

Only a minority of businesses are selected for an Inland Revenue Enquiry. However if you are selected it is important that an effective counter strategy is developed as quickly as possible. Some of the issues that need to be considered as an enquiry progresses are as follows:

  • It is important to co-operate.
  • Only supply information that the inspector is legally entitled to ask for.
  • Is the Inspector working to the legislation and, more importantly, Internal Inland Revenue guidelines, which can restrict his conduct?
  • If the Inspector can demonstrate that there is a problem it is important to recognise this at an early opportunity and respond appropriately.
  • Finally, if further liabilities arise it is important to realise what options are open to the Inspector and how the final settlement can be kept as low as possible.

The taxpayer under enquiry may feel trapped in a sinister game of cat and mouse. As with any game knowledge of the rules is essential. For anyone caught up in such a situation a greater understanding of his opponent’s strengths and weaknesses is invaluable. We can offer an insight into how the Inspector is thinking which enables us to respond effectively.

In addition to enquiry work we can also advise on other compliance issues, including the application of late filing penalties, technical issues, official error provisions and complaints procedures.
